The transition into our summer species is almost complete, the mackerel have arrived in good numbers as predicted and the bait schools are just getting thicker. This means big fish like cobia, tuna, wahoo, marlin, dolphin fish (mahi mahi) and of course mackerel (spotted & Spanish) are on the prowl close to home.
Some great catches of reef fish have been coming from our full day trips (9hr) to Double Island Point, in fact this month we smashed two boat records with a monster 68cm pearl perch and a 57cm Moses perch. Along with these trophies plenty of h
ussar, squire/snapper, trag jew, mauri cod, coral cod, red emperor, sweet lip and more…On top of the reef fishing, the full day trips take you to some great blue water locations where high speed trolling or live baiting is done for all of the pelagic species mentioned above.
Closer to home on our 5 & 7hr trips the arrival of the bait fish has brought some life back with good numbers of cod (goldspot & mauri) and cobia coming from the gravel patches, pearl perch, Moses perch, squire, trag jew, spangled emperor, kingfish, mulloway (jew) and good number of sweet lip on the bite after some long awaited rain. With the warm water we have started to see coral trout coming aboard again. They are the ultimate – a hard fighting fish as well as a prized table fish.
It is shaping up to be a great summer of fishing and we are excited. Hope to see you soon.
