The reef fishing has been hit and miss close to home with the water to warm for the snapper, and the mackerel not here yet it has been tough on the local reefs, but still some good catches of moses perch, pearl perch (to 60cm), mauri and goldspot cod, squire and some great sweetlip in the dirty water.
Further from home D.I has been firing with catches of red emperor (legal size), goldband snapper, jew, cobia, kingfish, hussar and all of the above. Whole baits have been working best but the good old squid/ pilchard combo has been doing the trick.
The big summer currents are yet to arrive with fishing conditions being rather easy lately, a lot of bait has shown up down deep in the last few days on sunshine reef, which can only mean the mackerel are close behind along with the tuna, mahi mahi, wahoo and the billfish.
